Perlane

Perlane Dermal Filler #1 provider in Phoenix and Scottsdale AZ. In business since 1988!

Perlane is an injectable cosmetic dermal fill that has been used to soften wrinkle and facial lines in individuals. Perlane, next generation dermal filler and the newest member of the Restylane family, was approved by the FDA for use in the United States in May 2007. Hyaluronic acid gel particles in Perlane are larger than those in Restylane. As such, Perlane is intended to be implanted into the deep dermis to superficial layer of the subcutis to add volume to restore surface contour in facial wrinkles and folds.

The increased size of the particles break down slower than the smaller particles in Restylane and therefore last longer—up to one year.

What is Perlane and how does it work?
Made from non- animal based hyaluronic acid— a natural sugar that helps to give skin a plump, youthful appearance — Perlane is a cosmetic filler that can be injected into facial tissue to soften wrinkles and provide fullness. Perlane injections mimic the body’s own natural hyaluronic acid. By restoring lost volume under the skin’s surface, Perlane can help to lift up and smooth out overlying lines, leaving the face looking younger and more refreshed.

How is Perlane different from Restylane?
Though Perlane and Restylane come from the same family of hyaluronic acid fillers, Perlane is denser than Restylane, making it a good choice for deeper, more prominent wrinkles. Restylane is injected into the mid dermis and can affect more subtle changes in surface wrinkles and folds. Perlane is injected deeper into the dermis and is well suited for deeper folds, as well as larger areas of depleted facial volume, such as in the cheeks or chin.

How are Perlane and Restylane different from other fillers?
Because Perlane and Restylane are made from hyaluronic acid that is free from animal proteins, there’s virtually no risk of allergic reaction or animal-based disease transmission. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar that can be dissolved if needed, a reassuring feature for people being treated with filler for the first time.

What areas can be treated with Perlane?
Perlane is FDA-approved to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines). Perlane can also be used off-label to treat marionette lines, wrinkling at the corners of the eyes, acne scarring, and lost facial volume in sunken cheeks.

Is Perlane safe and are there any possible side effects? Perlane has a well-defined safety profile and is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds. Perlane is made from non-animal-based hyaluronic acid, limiting the possibility of an allergic reaction or animal- based disease transmission. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is found naturally within the body and is fully biocompatible. Side effects from Perlane are typically mild and rare. Temporary redness and swelling at the injection site is possible. These effects usually resolve within a few days and can be covered with makeup if desired. Before your treatment, Dr. Levine will discuss with you any possible side effects and answer any questions that you may have about safety. Who should administer Perlane? Perlane injections are best administered by a qualified physician or nurse with an understanding of proper technique and safety. Both the physician and nurses at Suddenly Slimmer Med Spa have years of experience in administering Perlane, and would be happy to answer your questions about whether Perlane is right for you. How long will the results last? The results from Perlane are immediately visible and typically last around 6 months. Follow-up injections are usually administered between 6 and 12 months after treatment. In most cases, less Perlane is needed during follow-up treatments in order to achieve the results desired. Can the effects be reversed if desired? Yes. All hyaluronic acid fillers may be quickly dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Though it is very rarely requested, first-time patients may feel more comfortable knowing that the effects can be reversed quickly, easily, and safely, usually within 24 hours. Can Perlane be combined with other procedures? Yes. Various dermal fillers and other cosmetic injectables, such as BOTOX, are often used concurrently to treat a variety of facial areas. Additionally, different types of fillers can be used synergistically as part of advanced layer techniques. For example, the physician or nurse may elect to use one filler in the deep dermis to provide structural foundation, another in the mid-dermis to replace lost volume, and a superficial filler to help smooth away surface lines and wrinkles. Perlane may also be used in combination with laser treatments or other procedures for even better results. The physician and nurse will discuss with you what procedure or combination of procedures may best suit your specific needs. How can I prepare for Perlane treatment? During your initial consultation, the physician and nurse will thoroughly discuss your goals and expectations, including possible risks and the best way to prepare for your treatment. As much as possible, patients should avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen-containing products (such as Advil and Motrin), St. John’s Wort, high doses of vitamin E supplements, and other blood thinners (unless medically necessary) for 1 week prior to treatment in order to minimize the risk of bruising. Patients should also avoid red wine and multivitamins for 2 days prior to treatment.
