Pixel Radio Frequency Pre & Post Care
- Not everyone is a candidate for RF Pixel. Your laser technician will properly assess your skin to see if you are a good candidate.
- No sun exposure, self-tanning, or spray tanning 2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Must not be pregnant, nursing, or under treatment for cancer.
- Use of the following in the treatment area should be discontinued prior to treatment:
- Retin-A / Retinol / Tretinoin: 5 days
- Benzoyl Peroxide and any other harsh blemish treatments: 5 days
- Accutane(Isotretinoin): 6 months
- Waxing, peels, laser, depilatory creams, microdermabrasion, etc. should be avoided 5-14 days prior.
- CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR: with Anticoagulant use – may increase the risk of bruising, history of coagulopathies, history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, and/or diabetes – may impede wound healing.
- Patients with a history of HSV to the treatment area should pre and post-treat with Valtrex antiviral.
RF Pixel Expectations
- The skin is cleansed and prepped. In some cases, a topical numbing solution will be applied prior to treatment.
- You will experience some discomfort during the treatment. The sensation is warm and a “zapping” sensation.
- An appointment time lasts about 1 hour for the face, other body areas vary depending on size. The treatment itself is fairly quick ranging about 5-20 minutes depending on the area.
Post-Treatment Recommendations for RF Pixel

- The area treated with the laser may be red afterward. This will generally fade within 2-3 days.
- To ease discomfort, you may take Ibuprofen and use a cold compress or ice packs for 10-minute intervals for the first 24 hours. It is recommended to sleep slightly elevated to prevent swelling.
- The treated area should be washed normally with mild cleanser and water. Wash the area gently with your fingertips. Do NOT use a washcloth or other abrasive instrument.
- For the next 3-4 weeks, avoid sun exposure to the treated area. Use of sunscreen containing an SPF of 30 or higher is recommended daily.
- Avoid irritants such as products containing glycolic acid or Retin-A for 7-10 days.
- Minor crusting or scabbing of the treated area can occur. Do not rub or pick the scab.
- Avoid hot baths, hot showers, exercise, and massage for 48 hours.
- You may use makeup on the treated area after 3 days.
- DAY 1-3: Gentle cleanser and topicals. Recommend: Cleanse with Obagi Gentle Cleanser, and then apply Aquaphor
- DAY 4-6: Gentle Cleanser and Replace Aquaphor with a heavy moisturizer and Sunscreen 30+. Recommend: SkinMedica TNS Ceramide Moisturizer or Obagi Hydrate. Obagi Sunshield or SkinMedica Total Defense & Repair
- DAY 7: Introduce normal or therapeutic cleansers. You may begin using other serums / advanced skincare regimens. Recommend: TNS Essential Serum, Obagi Professional C products, Lytera, Nu-Derm System.
- OTHER:
- Tretinoin/Retinol resume use on day 7.
- Hydroquinone Products i.e. Obagi Clear or Blender, resume on day 7.
- Microdermabrasion or peel is recommended in 2-3 weeks after treatment.
- Your NEXT Pixel Treatment should be within 3-5 weeks (consult your provider)
